CPR/AED — Introduction to CPR:

• Know the content and objectives of the training as well as the challenges related to resuscitating a cardiac arrest victim and airway clearance

• Awareness of the importance of CPR maneuvers, new guidelines, causes of cardiac arrest, angina and stroke

• Quickly recognize the type of victim in order to provide the best possible care

• Understand the essential role of the rescuer during emergencies involving a cardiac arrest victim or airway obstruction

• Know the most recent national guidelines on CPR and cardiac emergency care

The approach and primary survey:

• Learn to recognize hazards and intervene effectively

• Reduce stress in the face of a potential intervention

• Learn techniques for checking level of consciousness and assisting with medication

• Validate the presence or absence of effective breathing in a victim

• Learn turning techniques for an unconscious victim showing signs of life

• Be able to recognize a cardiac arrest victim

• Apply the right intervention techniques according to the rescuer's primary assessment

Life-threatening emergencies:

• Recognize, interpret and intervene in response to signs of an angina attack or chest pain

• Recognize, interpret and intervene in response to signs of a stroke

• Recognize, interpret and intervene in response to signs of an opioid overdose (including use of naloxone if available)

Chest compressions:

• Learn the proper chest compression techniques for adults, children and infants

• Raise awareness of risks and precautions related to compressions in certain victims

• Raise awareness of the importance of chest compression quality

• Perform high-quality chest compressions on all patient groups according to the latest national standards

Ventilations:

• Learn the proper ventilation techniques for adults, children and infants

• Learn to properly perform mouth-to-mouth ventilation

• Know and become familiar with the different available ventilation devices

• Perform ventilations on all victims using mouth-to-mouth, a pocket mask or a face shield

Defibrillation:

• Learn to recognize when to use an AED and learn its use

• Recognize the risks related to the use of an AED

• Learn the particularities regarding AED use on an infant

• Use an AED safely and effectively during a cardiorespiratory emergency

Special cases:

• Raise awareness of the different possible care approaches and reduce stress in the face of an intervention

• Manage a person victim of a life-threatening traumatic emergency

• Know the reasons why ventilations may be optional in case of cardiac arrest

• Know the minimum legal responsibilities of the first responder according to the law

• Ensure that a rescuer never endangers their own health or safety during an assistance

Demonstrations and practice — CPR adult, child, infant by 1 rescuer:

AO — Airway obstruction clearance:

• Adapt airway clearance techniques for victims of different body types

• Learn the proper airway clearance techniques for an infant, conscious or unconscious

• Apply airway clearance techniques on a person victim of airway obstruction

First aid – Anaphylaxis:

• Learn the definition of anaphylaxis and the roles of the responder

• Recognize the different allergens, signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction

• Understand the physiological reactions and effects of epinephrine

• Learn the proper epinephrine injection techniques and clinical intervention protocol

• Know the operation of auto-injectors and associated risks

• Interpret a clinical situation and intervene on a victim of an anaphylactic reaction

• Master a complete intervention on a victim suffering from an anaphylactic-type allergic reaction

The approach and medical primary survey allows safe assessment of a scene, assessment of level of consciousness, respiratory and circulatory functions, interpretation of the level of orientation and guidance toward the correct intervention protocols.

• Foreword: understand the principles of traumatic intervention and the reasons not to move a trauma victim (except in an uncontrolled-risk situation)

• Approach and primary survey – TRAUMATIC: recognize hazards, learn cervical/spinal immobilization, primary assessment of a trauma victim, management of vital functions (A, B, C)

• Eye injuries: recognize, interpret and intervene

• Burns: recognize, interpret and intervene

• Bleeding: recognize, learn control techniques (direct pressure, bandages, tourniquets), interpret and intervene

• Practice – Traumatic first aid part 1: bleeding — recognize, intervention techniques, clinical situation, intervention

• Extremity trauma: recognize the signs, intervention techniques, clinical situation, intervention

• Head and spinal trauma: recognize the signs, intervention techniques, clinical situation, intervention

• Awareness of continuing education and the importance of skill refresher training
